"Reflections" Alzheimer's/Dementia Services
Philosophy
Broomall Rehabilitation
and Nursing Center is committed to delivering quality clinical care and
rehabilitative services to individuals who suffer from Alzheimer’s
disease and other related dementias. Our comprehensive dementia program
focuses on the individual needs of each resident and his/her family,
while emphasizing dignity, self-esteem, compassion, understanding, and
security. Broomall Rehabilitation and Nursing Center features a
separate, specialized therapeutic residence that can more effectively
meet the needs of residents with dementia.
Staff
Our team of highly
skilled professionals includes nurses, aides, activity specialists,
food service providers, housekeepers, and maintenance personnel. Each
member of the dementia unit’s staff receives training in recognizing
the characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. They
use techniques that emphasize effective communication and behavior
management approaches. Our certified nurse aides provide unit-based
programs (Small group programs specially designed for residents with
similar functional and cognitive needs) throughout the day when the
recreation therapy department is not conducting programs. Nurses are
present with residents around the clock. The center’s medical directors
are actively involved in care planning and are on call 24-hours a day.
Environment and Services
The
environment of the dementia unit, located on Main 3, presents a
soothing atmosphere, while reducing isolation caused by the disease.
Cleanliness, safety, and simple décor promote orientation and
independence. We strive to minimize any sense of loss, while
maximizing each resident’s potential and capabilities during a
difficult time of life. Residents may receive the following
services:
- Comprehensive evaluation of individual needs on admission; reassessments throughout the stay
- Resident-specific plan of care specifying therapeutic goals for cognitive function and daily activities
- Activity-intense programming
- Coordinated interaction with family and friends
- Family support services and education
- Secured unit
- Full-time recreation therapy team
- Restorative Care
