Pain Management
Broomall Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is committed to
using a multi-faced approach to ensure that our residents are free of
pain. Our pain management program incorporates both pharmacological and
non-pharmacological treatment modalities. Our medical team consists of
independent physicians, nurse practitioners, physiatrist nurses,
psychologists, podiatrists and rehabilitation services. Our staff is
trained to recognize signs and symptoms of pain and they realize that
unrevealed pain has both physiological and psychological effects on our
patients. Pain is often a part of the aging process and can be present
with a decline in medical status if left untreated. Unrelieved pain can
slow recovery, contribute to depression and impede the healing process.
Nursing staff assess for pain daily with every medication pass.
Pharmacological pain interventions include oral administration, IVs and
duragesic patches. An independent licensed pharmacist will conduct an
interim medication regime review on admission and as necessary
thereafter. Broomall Rehabilitation and Nursing Center utilizes
non-pharmacologic treatment modalities such as massage therapy to
facilitate the healing process. Our recreation department offers
opportunities for socialization and the provision of pleasant diversion
from pain. Physical therapy utilizes warm compresses or cold packs to
relieve the symptoms of pain. Our skilled therapy department is trained
in the usage and management of TENS units. The coordination of our
clinical team to manage pain enhances the quality of care for our
residents.
